Principals
Paul Papayoanou, SGG's founder, developed the Strategic Gaming approach and was awarded registration of a service mark for the powerful application of game theory by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 2005. Dr. Papayoanou has been using game theory approaches in academia and the business world for twenty five years. He received a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, using advanced game-theoretic techniques in his dissertation. He was then a professor at the University of California, San Diego and at Harvard University, where his teaching and research often employed game theory. As a consultant, Dr. Papayoanou has used his expertise in game theory to help numerous companies in a wide range of industries to make and execute important business decisions that have saved or added billions of dollars of value. Papayoanou is the author of Power Ties and co-editor of New Games, and he has published numerous articles in business and academic publications. His newest book, Strategic Gaming, is in progress.
Steve Galatis brings over twenty years of experience developing and implementing corporate strategy and helping his clients improve the value created by their decision-making. Mr. Galatis’s project work has generally involved decision-making in the face of material uncertainty and risk, and where the value of his clients’ strategic initiatives could be significantly affected by the actions of others. As such, he has extensive experience in using decision analysis and real options, as well as Strategic Gaming. He has worked in a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, high-tech, engineering & construction, oil & gas, and chemicals. Mr. Galatis received an MA in economics from Stanford University and a BA in economics from Michigan State University. Prior to joining SGG, Mr. Galatis was a Partner in Strategic Decisions Group, a mid-sized strategy consultancy focused on Global 1000 clients.
